Abstract

Abstract will be reviewed blindly. The reviewers will judge the abstracts according to the scientific or clinical value, relevance to biomechanics, suitability to aims, conclusions confirmed by objective results, objectivity of statement, description of methods used, ethics, standard of English and overall impression.

Abstract acceptance will be in one of these categories:

oral presentation or poster presentation only

Please note that any incomplete abstract submissions will not be considered for review. Abstracts should be carefully checked for spelling, grammar, missing data, blank pages, and any duplications, prior to submission to us. We do not perform any editing on the abstracts other than the deletion of inadmissible material.

Abstracts not adhering to these guidelines will be rejected. If you do not agree with any of these rules, you should not submit an abstract. The final decision about acceptance of an abstract will be taken by the APBiomech2023 Scientific Programme Committee. APBiomech2023 committee does not communicate, nor enter into correspondence on the reasons for acceptance/rejection of the abstract submitted.

Information on accepted abstracts (title and authors) will also be available online about two weeks prior to the conference

The submission of an abstract constitutes a formal commitment by the presenting author to present the abstract (if accepted) orally or as a poster in the session and the time assigned by the APBiomech2023 Committee. We therefore recommend submitters of the abstract to register for the conference upon acceptance of the abstract. Otherwise, the abstract will be omitted from the APBiomech2023 database.

If you need to withdraw your abstract, a written statement listing the reasons for this decision must be sent to the abstract help desk at apbiomech2023@um.edu.my no later than 31st August 2023.

YAMAGUCHI MEDALS IN BIOMECHANICS
for early career researchers

The Medal is named after Professor Takami Yamaguchi who is the Founding Chair of the Asian-Pacific Association for Biomechanics (APAB). The purpose of the Yamaguchi Medal is to support and encourage promising young researchers at the early stage of their career in the field of Biomechanics in the Asian-Pacific region. Following a rigorous assessment of all applications, the Yamaguchi Medals will be awarded to individuals who have best demonstrated excellence in their areas of research.

Yamaguchi Medals will be awarded during the Asian-Pacific Conference of Biomechanics. The medals are for the following categories:

– Cell and Molecular Biomechanics
– Tissue Biomechanics
– Organ Biomechanics
– Gait and Kinesiology
– Computational Biomechanics
– Medical Innovation
– Product Development
– Emerging Technology

Eligibility

Early career: Applicants should have a PhD awarded not more than 7 years prior to the submission deadline or the application. (Periods of parental leave during the years following the award of the PhD will be considered and may extend the criterion to a maximum of 8 years.)
Asian-Pacific: Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong affiliation to an academic or research institution in the list of Asian-Pacific membership countries and regions. For the list of membership countries and regions, please click the link:  http://www.apbiomech.org/organization.html.
Strong affiliation typically means the applicant has obtained his/her PhD from an academic or research institution from one of the member countries and regions or, if applicants received his/her PhD from a country outside the list, eligible applicants should currently be affiliated to an academic or research institution from one of the member countries for the last 3 years.

Submission

Please note that medal recipients will be obliged to present their findings in a special APAB Yamaguchi Medal session at the 12th Asian-Pacific Conference on Biomechanics, in Kuala Lumpur, Nov 16-19, 2023.

Hence, before submitting, the applicant should consider seriously the ability to attend the APAB conference.

Applications (combined in a single pdf file no larger than 10MB) must include:

a. The CV of the applicant.
b. A list of publications.
c. A short personal statement (1000 words max.) outlining the scientific achievements and future interests of the applicant.
d. An abstract to the 12th Asian-Pacific Conference on Biomechanics, or the best paper the applicant ever published. Please note that the abstract submission portal is available on the conference website. (https://apbiomech2023.um.edu.my/)

Please email the single pdf file (no larger than 10MB), to the Chair of the APAB Awards Committee (details below).

If you have any questions, please contact:
